Planning a charter vacation in the BVI or USVI for 2018? Before you do, it’s a good idea to make sure you have adequate insurance coverage. There are several plans out there to choose from, use these helpful tips to determine what’s right for your vacation.

1. Know what’s available.
Travel insurance can include trip cancellation for flights, unpredicted medical coverage, loss of valuable possessions, and other losses that can happen while traveling. Insurance is there to protect you from any unforeseen events and could save you from hefty additional costs.

2. Determine your vacation’s time frame.
You can arrange your travel insurance at the time of booking or cover a “multi-trip” policy that can include unlimited trips set within a time frame. Travel insurance can be purchased up to 24 hours before trip departure, but it’s always good to plan ahead and secure this a few weeks in advance.

3. Possibly consider extra coverage.
If you travel with expensive equipment, jewelry (wedding rings!), or sporting gear, you want to make sure these things are covered. Also, consider the importance of emergency medical assistance coverage. It can make all the difference considering many health insurance plans do not cover outside of the United States.
