What to Pack for a Crewed Yacht Charter

It’s easy to overpack for any vacation, but a crewed charter yacht is a trip for simplicity.

Try to bring only the essentials but don’t forget you can typically buy whatever you need when you arrive. Here’s a brief outline of the packing process to make sure you are practical and prepared for your Caribbean yacht vacation!

First, your travel bag of choice should be a soft, flexible duffle bag. Soft bags can be stored away during your vacation while large hard suitcases will only take up space that you need. Most cabins will have a mini-closet for you to unpack where you can store away your duffle bag.

When it comes to toiletries, it’s easier to know what not to pack. Things you typically buy in a travel size like sunscreen, lotion, mosquito repellant, shampoo, conditioner, and soap are all things that you should buy in a group size before boarding. Purchasing and packing several travel sizes in everyone’s suitcases will quickly take up space especially in big family groups.

You’ll want all of the clothes you pack to be lightweight and quick-drying, so leave behind denim because it takes forever to dry. Boats can be slippery which makes a pair of good boat shoes that protect your feet and keep you from slipping a must. Sandals and sunglasses should have straps- unless you want to see them go overboard! Don’t worry about packing beach toys; many yachts offer floaties, water guns, and more if you ask ahead!

Lastly are cameras and electronics, bring things like a waterproof camera, an auxiliary cable, mixed CDs with your favorite tunes, and a waterproof phone case. You may have personal reservations about selfie sticks, but this is definitely a trip where you’ll wish you had one! Don’t overlook travel insurance; it’s one of those things you think you don’t need but could make all the difference if you do.
